Who Requires 验证
The FAFSA central processing system identifies some students 为 a process called 验证. This requires the student (and parents when parent data is part of the FAFSA) to submit documents that reconfirm some of the in为mation that was provided 在FAFSA上. As many as 一个 out of every three FAFSAs that are submitted get identified 为验证. This is no accusation of dish一个sty. Rather this is the U.S. 部门 of Education’s way of assuring taxpayers that the self-reported data 在FAFSA上 is as accurate as it can be.
Verify As Quickly as Possible
We cannot disburse any federal or state aid to those who have been identified 为验证 until that process is complete. So, if 你 are identified 为验证, it is important that 你 submit the required documents as soon as 你 can. 否则 there will be a delay in finding out how much aid 你 are eligible 为 and a delay in getting it on 你r account.
Submitting 验证 Documents
For 2024-2025, some students and parents need to submit 验证 of income and 税务信息. Most have in为mation automatically pulled from the 国税局 to fulfill 这个需求. 如果你 need to submit an 国税局 tax return transcript or income 为ms, here are some ways 你 can do this. Do whichever is easier or more convenient 为你. Submit the required 验证 worksheet and tax documents (if 你 need to include those) in person, by mail, or by fax. The office address and fax number are on the 验证 worksheet.

如果你 filed a 2022 国税局 Federal Tax Return, please use 一个 of the following 选项:
1. Fax, mail, or deliver a 签署 copy of 你r 2022 国税局 federal tax return with all schedules.
2. 获得你的 2022 国税局 Tax Return Transcript 在网上、国税局.GOV/INDIVIDUALS/GET-TRANSCRIPT. Click “Get Transcript 在线” or “Get Transcript by Mail” and follow the directions provided. To access transcripts online, 你 will be required to create an account with the 国税局.
3. Automated teleph一个 Request, call 1-800-908-9946. Tax Return Transcript should be received within 10 business days from the 国税局’s receipt of the teleph一个 request.
4. Paper Request using 国税局 Form 4506T-EZ or 国税局 Form 4506-T. Tax Return Transcript should be received within 10 business days from the 国税局’s receipt of 你r paper request 为m.

如果你未归档 a 2022 国税局 Federal Tax Return and need to obtain W-2s, please use 一个 of the following 选项:
1. Contact each employer to request a copy of 你r 2022 W-2 为m(s).
2. 去国税局.GOV/INDIVIDUALS/GET-TRANSCRIPT. Click “Get Transcript 在线”. You will be required to create an account with the 国税局. Select 工资 & 收入 记录为 2022. Save and print the document.
3. 如果你 are unable to obtain 你r W-2 in a timely manner, please submit a 签署 and dated statement certifying (1) the amount of income earned from work, (2) the source of income, and (3) the reason why the W-2 is unavailable.

如果你 need to obtain a 验证 of Non-Filing Letter, 你 will need to request this letter from the relevant tax authority (other than the 国税局) in which 你 (or 你r spouse) would have filed an income tax return. 如果你 need further assistance or are unable to obtain this letter, please call our office 812-888-4361.
